Chili cheese dogs and cheese fries make a great combination. This is what we have when we feel like having a junk food night. Next time you are craving a hot dog, try this.
CHEESE SAUCE
- 1-2 tablespoons almond milk
- 5 pieces of gluten free dairy free cheese
Put a small amount of milk in a measuring cup. Then break up the cheese and add it to the milk. Microwave this for about 1 1/2 minutes. Stop it halfway and stir.
Before you start the chili, preheat the oven to 450 degrees so you can put the fries in and start cooking them.
INGREDIENTS FOR CHILI CHEESE DOG
- gluten free hot dogs – Dietz and Watson
- gluten free hot dog buns
- 1 lb ground beef
- garlic powder 1 tablespoon
- onion powder 1 tablespoon
- salt
- pepper
- cumin 1 teaspoon
- paprika 1 tablespoon
- chili powder 1 to 1 1/2 tablespoons
- ketchup 1 tablespoon
Heat up a pan and add the ground beef. Stir occasionally and break up the meat. Add garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, paprika, chili powder, salt, pepper, and ketchup. Mix everything and simmer for about 15 minutes.
While the chili is simmering put the hot dog buns in the toaster. If you microwave the hot dogs in water they will be done in about 6 minutes. You can cook them on top of the stove or you may choose to grill them. If it is summer time I recommend grilling them as you get a better flavor.
Finally, it is time to put together the chili cheese dogs. Get the buns out and put on some mustard. Place the hot dog in the bun and spoon some chili over the top. Next, pour a generous amount of melted cheese over the chili. Put some fries on the side and cover them in cheese as well. I also added some baked beans to complete our meal.
The hot dogs I used are by Dietz and Watson, but you can also use Boar’s Head, Nathans, or Thumans.
