This Vegan Cheese Steak Sandwich is a must try. Most recipes only include mushrooms, so I decided to bring this sandwich to the next level. Adding Beyond Beef to the recipe brings that beef flavor and texture you may be looking for. I cannot eat gluten, so most vegan meat products are out of the question. This sandwich satisfied my cheese steak craving and it is completely plant based.

Let’s dive into making a vegan cheese steak sandwich.
INGREDIENTS
- 24 oz. baby bella mushrooms, thinly sliced
- 1 package of ground Beyond Beef
- Peppadews – or pepper of your choice
- gluten free dairy free shredded mozzarella cheese – Daiya
- 1 onion, sliced (optional)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- salt
- pepper
- 1 gluten free dairy free baguette – Schar
- gluten free dairy free marinara or pizza sauce (optional)
Mushrooms are used in many vegan recipes due to their meaty texture and intense flavor. Caramelizing them brings out the sugars and intensifies the flavor.
DIRECTIONS
- Heat olive oil over medium high heat.
- Thinly slice the mushrooms, then add them to the pan. Cook for about 2 minutes, without stirring allowing the mushrooms caramelize. Add salt and pepper, stir, and cook an additional five minutes.
- Put the sliced onion in the pan, then cook for 5 minutes.
- Add beyond beef, then cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Place your baguette in the toaster for 3-5 minutes to warm it.
- Once everything is cooked, lower the heat to medium low, then add the peppers and cheese. Add salt and pepper to taste, then stir to combine.
- Slice the rolls, heap on the vegan cheese steak, then add sauce if preferred.
