There are many different versions of chili. This Hearty Beef Chili recipe is based on classic chili, but I added some Sirlion to make it hearty. The Sirloin gives you something to sink your teeth into.
I have a 12 year old son, so I need to make sure his meals are filling. By adding the Sirloin Steak, I can make the beef chili heartier. The beans will also help to satisfy his appetite because of the fiber content.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 lb sirloin steak, cut into 1/4 inch pieces
- bell peppers – yellow, red, orange ( half of each pepper diced)
- 1/2 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, diced
- gluten free dairy free cheddar cheese (to top chili)
- salt
- pepper
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 2-3 tablespoons chili powder
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 can diced tomatoes
- 1 can of black beans
- gluten free dairy free sour cream (to top chili)
- 3 scallions – chopped (to sprinkle on top)
Let’s get started on making this hearty beef chili. Start by cutting up the Sirloin.
Put the ground beef and sirloin into a pan and brown them. While the meat is browning dice up the onion, garlic, and peppers and then add them to the pan. The colored peppers will add color and sweetness. Add the salt, pepper, cumin, chili powder, paprika, and ketchup. I also add a dash of Chipotle powder if I have it on hand. You don’t need a lot. Stir to combine. Next, add the diced tomatoes and black beans.
Let this simmer for 20 to 30 minutes. Taste the chili for seasoning. If you want more spice add some Chipotle or Ancho pepper powder. You can also add the actual Chipotle or Ancho peppers.
Once this hearty beef chili is done simmering you will be able to taste all those fabulous flavors. Taste the chili and make any adjustments to the flavor. You may need more salt or want more heat.
Spoon a healthy portion of the hearty beef chili into a bowl and add the cheese, sour cream, and scallions on top. Get a spoon and dig in!
