When you hear tuna steaks you probably think of tuna fish. You’re thinking they will be dry and gross like tuna out of a can. Totally not true if you cook them correctly. Marinating will also help to keep them moist. The first time I made this my son was about 7 years old and he loved it.
A lot of people say they don’t like fish and I use to feel the same way. You probably haven’t had it made the right way or maybe it wasn’t very fresh. Some types of fish have a stronger flavor than others. You may want to stick to fish with a mild flavor such as cod, flounder, haddock, halibut, etc. to start.
Cooking fish can be intimidating because it can overcook very quickly. Fish also have different textures, so some do well in the oven and others can tolerate being grilled.
TIP: When buying fish it should never smell! If it does do not buy it.

- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon minced ginger
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon salt

Put all the ingredients, except the tuna in a plastic bag and mix until combined. Add the tuna steaks and marinate in the refrigerator for 2 hours. Turn over after 1 hour.
Oil the grates on the grill to keep the fish from sticking. Turn on the grill and let it heat up.
Place the tuna steaks on the grill and cook for 3 minutes per side to medium rare. Keep an eye on the time as they can over cook very quickly and then your tuna will be dry.
Put the tuna steaks over some seasoned rice and sprinkle with some sesame seeds. Add your favorite vegetable and dig in.
