Pizza is one food I missed the most when I found out I had a gluten intolerance. I started making my own pizza crust. I also tried out some already made crusts and there are actually some decent ones.
This one is made with a premade crust. Premade crusts are a good thing to keep in the pantry because you can make a pizza quickly providing you have the other ingredients. Kids are always asking for pizza.
Premade crust is great when you really don’t feel like cooking. I know we all have those days. Premade pizza crusts come frozen or in a box. If you have time you can make pizza dough in a bread machine.

Make Your Own Pizza Dough
You can make your own crust or choose to purchase a ready made crust. For pan pizza dough ideas click on the highlighted words.
Making your own crust is easy. This can be done easily in a bread machine on the dough setting. Take out the dough and place on a cutting board dusted with flour. Separate the dough into two pieces.
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
Roll the dough into a circle to your desired thickness. Place the rolled out pizza dough on the pan. Brush with olive oil. Add the sauce, parmesan, mozzarella, and then the toppings.
Make Your Own Pizza Sauce
- 1 can crushed tomatoes
- 1/3 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon each – basil, parsley, and oregano
Put a little bit of olive oil in the pot. Add some diced onion and garlic, cook or about 3 minutes. Add a can use a can of crushed tomatoes, salt, parsley, basil, and oregano. Simmer for at about 15 minutes.
Using a Premade Pizza Shell
If you are using a frozen pizza shell, it has to defrost for about 15 minutes. You can also buy shells that are not frozen and ready to use. Schar has a very good one.
Rub some olive oil on the shell. Next, spread the sauce. If you are using a jar of pizza sauce there is no need to add spices.
Add the parmesan, mozzarella cheese and then move on to the toppings. If you don’t like toppings then you can make a cheese pizza.
I use Daiya mozzarella cheese because it melts well and actually tastes like mozzarella cheese. There are other brands out there, but this one tastes the most like real cheese to me.
Now it is time to get creative! The possibilities of pizza toppings are endless. I chose to use spinach, mushrooms, onions and pepperoni. You can use whatever vegetables and meats you like.
I always put my spinach first because it seems to keep it from drying out. Next, add onions and mushrooms. Now add your choice of meat. Your meat choices include sausage, pepperoni, salami, prosciutto, or whatever else you can think of. You can also simply stick to vegetables for toppings.
