This Prosciutto Garlic Bread is a great appetizer for any party! Every New Year’s Eve I look for different appetizers to try. I make some of my favorites and try to add some new ones. This year I found this amazing prosciutto bread topped with garlic and butter. The combination of the salty prosciutto inside the bread and garlic butter on the outside, WOW! This stuff is awesome.
INGREDIENTS
- Bob’s Red Mill gluten free white bread mix or any other gluten free bread mix
To make the bread mix you will need the following:
- 3 egg whites and 1 egg, room temperature
- 1/4 cup margarine
Whatever bread mix you use just follow the directions on the box.
OTHER INGREDIENTS
- 16 slices of gluten free prosciutto
- 1/2 cup smart balance
- 8 cloves garlic – grated through a microplane
TIP: Before you start, make sure your eggs are at room temperature. If you forget to take them out you can soak them in warm water for several minutes. This will make the bread tender and light.
First, set the bread machine to the dough setting. Then put the yeast packet into 1 1/2 cups of warm water inside the bread machine and let it rest for 5 minutes. Next, add the melted margarine. Put the 3 egg whites and 1 whole egg in a measuring cup, mix them up, and then add to the rest of the mix. Dump the bread mix into the bread machine. This will take about an hour and a half to make the dough.
While you are waiting for the dough to get ready start on the garlic margarine mixture. Put a 1/2 cup of margarine into a microwave safe bowl. Next, take 8 cloves of garlic smash them, peel them, and then grate them through the microplane into the bowl with the margarine.
MAKE THE PROSCIUTTO GARLIC BREAD
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Get out a cutting board, rolling pin, and flour. Dust the cutting board with flour so the dough does not stick to it. Split the dough into two equal pieces. Take one half and dust it with a little flour. If the dough sticks to the rolling pin or the board just add a little more flour, but don’t add too much or the dough will become dry.
Roll the dough out into a rectangle. Take the garlic butter and brush over the entire area. Lay eight pieces of prosciutto onto the dough so the entire area is covered. (shown above) Beginning at the far end slowly roll the dough toward you so the prosciutto is wrapped inside. Place the long rolled up dough onto a baking sheet. Take the dough and twist it all the way around and place it in a circle. Now take the rest of the and repeat the process. After you have finished brush the rest of the garlic butter over the top of the prosciutto bread rings.
Place the baking sheet in the oven for 30 minutes. The Prosciutto Garlic Bread should be a nice golden color.
