Although it is unclear who actually came up with the idea of avocado toast, I am glad they did. It seems this delicious treat goes back thousands of years, but it was made popular by several chefs who put it on their menu. The great thing about making it at home is you can add whatever you want to enhance the flavor of the avocado.

Get out your favorite bread and make some avocado toast.
I make my bread from a mix (King Arthur), but store bought bread will also work just as well. The reason I use King Arthur bread mix is because I have a son with Crohn’s Disease and anything that contains sorghum flour bothers him. If you are using a bread mix follow the instructions on the box otherwise get out your ingredients and get ready.
TIP: CUT THE AVOCADO IN HALF, TAKE OUT THE PIT, LAY FLAT AND CUT OFF THE TIP. THIS ALLOWS YOU TO PEEL THE SKIN OFF, LEAVING THE FLESH OF THE AVOCADO COMPLETELY INTACT.
Toast the bread to your liking. Cut, peel, and take out the pit of the avocado.
Mash the avocado in a bowl, add the lemon, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix the ingredients thoroughly. Smear the avocado mixture onto the toast. This is just one way of making avocado toast. There is a multitude of ingredients you can choose to make it exactly how you like it.
Some additions to your avocado toast may include tomatoes, onions, cheese, bacon, scallions, or additional seasoning.
