HOT DOG HISTORY
Who created the first hot dog? There seems to be some controversy about where these hot sausages originated. Two towns actually claim the origin of this flavorful little sausages. Frankfurt, Germany is traditionally credited with the origin of the first hot dog, however this claim is disputed by some. The town of Frankfurt claims they were the first to invent the frankfurter, while Vienna claims they created the weinerwurst. No matter who came up with the idea first, German immigrants to New York where the first to sell the “hot dog” from a push cart. These popular sausages known as “little dog” sausages or “Dachshund” are also said to be claimed by Johann Georghehner, a butcher living in Coberg, Germany.

There are so many ways you can enjoy a hot dog, but today I am wrapping them in bacon. Usually, I grill my them because I think they get the best flavor that way. Today, I am baking them in the oven.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a small oven tray with some foil. Wrap the hot dog with bacon and place it on the tray. Cook in the oven for about 10-15 minutes or until bacon is fully cooked. You can also put the buns in the oven for about 5-8 minutes to toast.
In a separate pan I sliced some onions and caramelized them. Put about 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of margarine in the pan. When the margarine melts add the onions and cook until they become a brown color. This should take about 10 minutes.
Melt your choice of cheese either in a pan or the microwave. Add a small amount of milk to the cheese and melt.
Now all you have to do is assemble your them. Put the hot dog on the bun, add some caramelized onions, and some cheese and you are good to go. You get the crunch of the bacon, the sweetness of the onion and the goodness of the cheese. Absolutely delicious!
When I get a thumbs of from the kid it is a definite winner. He told me you have to put this on your blog because it was really good.
